Balm noun \ˈbä(l)m\: an aromatic preparation (as a healing ointment)
When I first started researching Beauty Balms, or BB creams, I was skeptical. Beauty companies are sneaky and pull the wool over our unsuspecting eyes and create the NEED for products that eventually fill a bathroom drawer waiting to be passed down to posterity. I have been seduced by a lightweight, vitamin packed, camouflaging cream since the birth of the tinted moisturizer but I have found them to be lacking. There is little these products can offer aside from a low level sunscreen and dispensable vitamins.
I have been pleasantly surprised by this new generation of products. While some that I tried were heavenly, they will put a dent in the pocketbook with prices near the $50 range. However, Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream will only set you back around $8. This little gem comes in five colors and blends perfectly, it contains an SPF 30 broad spectrum sunscreen that we all should be wearing daily regardless, and while it goes on a little thick it absorbs quickly and has a nice finish. A BB cream offers very sheer coverage so if you are in need of something more concealing I have tested this as a primer layered with powder mineral foundation and liquid foundation with very good results. This is the perfect non-makeup, makeup and has replaced 3 products I was applying separately in my everyday routine.
